My journey into the construction world and launch of Straw Hat Restoration certainly wasn’t a clear-cut path. I learned early in life that hard work doesn’t necessarily guarantee success, but that success is not possible without hard work.
I watched my father with wide eyes as he out-worked me, out-lifted me and out-ate me! Not only do I aspire to reflect his image, but also his reputation as an honest, family-oriented and hard-working man. Growing up, I shared a passion for history with my father. This led me to the University of Western Ontario as a History major.
Not long after my studies were complete, I followed my other passion of music to the UK and Ireland. I found it endlessly rewarding and it helped me grow in experience with people and in management. Once again I was given a lesson on work ethic. Yet this time it was a lesson about necessity of persistence and selling your product. When I returned from the UK I moved back into the family trade and took up a management position in a construction company.
I would not be where I am today, excited about this new venture with Straw Hat Restoration, without my past experiences. This is what James and I truly believe SHR is all about. It’s an organization with a family work ethic and an educated worldview. Just as us Harrison know; Victory through Perseverance.
